On the bouquet it shows abundant black cherry, plum, coffee and clove aromas. The taste is medium bodied with rich fruit, spice and vanilla flavours lingering on the finish. Pair with tomato-sauce based pastas, roast lamb or smoked sausage cassoulet.

Pronounced 'ts-vi-gelt', this 1922 crossing of Blaufränkisch x St.Laurent was pioneered by Dr. Zweigelt of Austria. It has gained popularity in its native home of Austria and has become that country's most widely planted red grape. There has been interest here as well and Canada might just become its home away from home. The growing conditions of the north and central Okanagan are ideal for this grape, typically producing a medium bodied wine with a dark crimson colour and ripe cherry aromas.
